Heat records are broken in California, putting further strain on the electricity grid

 On Sunday, temperatures in the Central Valley of California were predicted to reach record highs from Sacramento to outside of Los Angeles. Officials issued a warning that the state could experience a dangerous heat wave that could last through the end of the week and push the boundaries of the electrical grid.

On Sunday, state officials urged citizens to use less electricity for the fifth straight day as energy demand increased and temperatures continued to rise.

On Sunday, the Central Valley experienced the worst of the heat. The National Weather Service warned that by midweek, the temperature could reach 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius), and advised locals to stay inside to avoid heat-related disease.

The National Weather Service Sacramento posted on Twitter on Sunday that "the heat wave begins in earnest today with hazardous temperatures now anticipated to linger through the end of the week."

According to National Weather Service forecaster Tony Fracasso, the Southern California city of San Diego, which on Saturday set a record high temperature of 95 degrees, could set another record on Sunday. However, there is a chance of afternoon thunderstorms, which could provide some relief.

The California Independent System Operator (ISO), which is in charge of the state's electricity grid, has extended a "flex alert" to a fifth day and is requesting that people in the state turn off their lights, raise their thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, and refrain from using large appliances.

The organization stated in a news release that "Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday in particular are shaping up to be the most tough of this heat wave."

It continued that the state's continuing wildfires and any future flames could damage power lines and generators, putting further strain on the electrical system. Climate change has left California more susceptible to wildfires than ever due to more than two decades of drought and rising temperatures.

The fast-moving Mill Fire, which forced thousands of residents to leave their homes, was being fought by firefighters in Siskiyou County in northern California. The maximum temperature for Sunday was predicted to be 95 degrees.

According to a video his office posted on social media, Siskiyou County Sheriff Jeremiah LaRue stated at a community gathering on Sunday that two people perished in the fire.

In the upcoming days, temperatures were predicted to reach 100 degrees. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reports that as of Sunday morning, the fire had burnt more than 4,000 acres and was 25% contained.

The crypto investments made by tech firm Meitu lost nearly $43 million in the bear market

 Meitu was one of many publicly traded companies that bought Bitcoin at the height of the bull run last year to keep as a treasury reserve.

Meitu, a major Hong Kong IT company, made news in April 2021 after disclosing holdings of roughly $100 million in cryptocurrencies. However, since the bear market started, the IT company has lost over half of the value of its cryptocurrency assets.

Meitu recorded an impairment loss on its cryptocurrency holdings of over 300 million yuan ($43.4 million), according to a local media source. When an asset's value declines below the investment's carrying value, it suffers from an impairment loss.

The impairment loss has more than doubled from the previous quarter, which the company had expected, according to the financial report. According to the IT juggernaut, at the conclusion of the first half of the year, the company's net loss could be impacted by its cryptocurrency holdings.

Meitu declared holdings in cryptocurrencies of around 940 Bitcoin (BTC) and 31,000 Ether (ETH), bought for $49.5 million and $50.5 million, respectively, in a July exchange filing. The company's net cryptocurrency investment was estimated to be around $100 million, and due to the current bear market in cryptocurrencies, the firm had lost nearly half of the value of its investment by the end of the second quarter of 2022.

Meitu is not the only business to suffer substantial losses on its cryptocurrency investments. As of the second quarter of 2022, MicroStrategy, the leader among publicly traded corporations investing in Bitcoin, recorded an impairment loss on its BTC assets of more than $900 million.

The use of Bitcoin as a treasury reserve in place of some U.S. dollars was made popular by Michael Saylor's MicroStrategy at the height of the cryptocurrency bull run last year. The concept gained a lot of traction as BTC was setting new records every month, and more than a dozen publicly traded firms, including Tesla and SpaceX, joined the bandwagon. However, the price of Bitcoin has decreased by nearly 70% from its peak and is now trading at under a third of its all-time high.

You can give one campaign that promotes store visits a higher value than the other if you're running two campaigns for that purpose.

For instance, you can specify default values for shop visits or store sales at the campaign level. For instance, you could set your store visit value to $100 for ads advertising high-ticket items and to $10 for campaigns marketing lower-priced or low-margin products.

The ability to establish conversion value rules for offline vs. online sales is now ideally suited for use.

Additionally, you can establish limitations on store visits or transactions based on audience, device, or geographic factors.

You can build an audience value rule that states, "If user is in the loyalty program audience, then multiply store visit value by 2," if you believe that customers from your loyalty program audience are more valuable when they visit stores.

You can boost the value of store visits for customers in New York by being able to modify values based on location or device.

By entering into your Google Ads account and going to Measurement > Conversions > Value rules, you can configure conversion value rules.

After that, click create conversion value rule and complete the necessary fields.
